Conference celebrating Korea-Russia exchange held

Seoul Cyber University hosted an international conference marking the 30th anniversary of the launch of culture and arts exchanges between Korea and Russia, Tuesday.

The Korea Russia Arts and Culture Society (KORACS) and the Russian Embassy in Seoul co-hosted the event, where participants reflected on the exchanges made in the past 30 years. They also explored and established networks to promote bilateral culture and arts exchanges, and to develop the culture and arts of the two countries.

KORACS President Lee Sang-kyun, Russian Ambassador to Korea Alexander Timonin, Korean Ambassador to Russia Woo Yoon-geun, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies President Kim In-chul, Special Representative to the President for Foreign Cultural Cooperation Mikhial Shvydkoi and KORACS Honorary Chairman Vladimir I. Kurilov attended the event.

Participants spoke about literature, theater, ballet, classical music, opera and modern arts exchanges They also discussed means to cooperate in culture and arts between the two countries.

Recently, the National Assembly and Russia’s Lower House have established a senior-level committee with speakers of both as co-chairmen, as a means for closer cooperation in their respective economies, and trade and investment.

“The conference was a meaningful opportunity to share the status-quo and history of culture and art exchanges between Korea and Russia, gaining momentum for further growth,” KORACS President Lee said.
