Twenty teachers receive global citizenship education training

By Chung Hyun-chae

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education kicked off a 15-hour training program Monday for 20 schoolteachers who are in charge of global citizenship education.

The office has launched the program to promote global citizenship education, a major agenda for the World Education Forum 2015 which will take place in Songdo, Incheon, from May 19-22.

Global citizenship education aims to cultivate people with universal values such as world peace, human rights and diversity.

The teachers are learning what global citizenship education is and how to develop effective teaching methods during the training session which will continue at Mapo Elementary School until Thursday.

Those who complete the training course will play an important role at the forum to introduce successful methods used in Korean education to visitors.

“We expect the teachers to promote global citizenship education actively in classrooms after the forum,” an education office official said.
