Seoul Itaewon Elementary School held a multicultural festival in the campus on Wednesday.
“The purpose of the event is for multicultural students to take pride in their own culture and to help them adapt to school life,” a school official said.
He said the school organized the event to help domestic students accept different cultures and cast away prejudice against those from multicultural families.
About 50 students of biracial families attend the school. Their mothers or fathers come from 18 different countries including China, Italy and Turkey.
With the help of teachers, parents and volunteers, the students opened booths to promote their own food and traditional games.
“We will organize a variety of multicultural programs to protect and promote cultural diversity,” the school official said.
