Student Corner Nuturing My Potential
By Issa Bangoura,
I would like to give a brief explanation of my presence in Korea. Bilateral cooperation between my country, the Republic of Guinea and Korea started on August 16. 2006, and in 2007 the Korea government offered scholarships to people from the Republic of Guinea, particularly the Ministry of Forestry, Agriculture and Fisheries. And I was selected by my department to apply for the scholarship.
This is an opportunity for me to thank the Korean government and the National Institute for International Education Development (NIIED) for giving me this opportunity to come to Korea for my doctoral program. As a scholarship student of the NIIED, I find the program very accurate and useful for foreign student's education.
My choice of Pukyong National University (PKNU) for my PhD program was not fortuitous. PKNU is one the best universities in Korea in the field of marine science particularly fisheries sciences and has high ranking professors and many research facilities in the field of marine science. We are the first students of the new Department of Fisheries College ― the ``International Program for Fisheries Sciences'' ― where all lectures are giving in English. I am very impressed by the quality and kindness of the lecturers.
I am also grateful to PKNU for helping foreign students by giving them extra Korean Language classes for free. The quality and kindness of the teachers is impressive.
I am sincere in saying that PKNU members including the International Relations Office, Graduate Office, the Korean Language Center and the different college departments are very friendly towards foreign students.
My future plan is an ambitious one of sharing my knowledge with other people by giving lectures where necessary. I am a universal person ― that means I am ready to go where people will need me.
