President Yoon Suk Yeol carried out a partial Cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday to replace several vice ministers who will run for parliament in April, 2024's general elections.

Kim Yoon-sang, the chief of the Public Procurement Service, was named as the second vice finance minister, replacing Kim Wan-Sup, who is reportedly preparing to run in the upcoming elections.

The presidential office said the new vice minister is a traditional financial technocrat who has long taken charge of finance and budget affairs, and has shown outstanding work capability.

Shin Young-sook, the former chief of the National Human Resources Development Institute, was named as the vice gender equality minister.

Jin Hyun-hwan and Song Myung-dal were chosen for the positions of first vice land minister and vice oceans minister, respectively. They are replacing Kim Oh-jin and Park Sung-hoon, who are reportedly vying for parliamentary seats in Daegu and Busan, respectively.

Other vice ministerial positions under the reshuffle include the appointment of Im Ki-keun, a ranking finance ministry official, as the head of the Public Procurement Service.

Son Young-taek was tapped as the chief secretary of the Office for Government Policy Coordination. Son currently serves as the head of the civil affairs department at the office. (Yonhap)
