Lee Jun-seok, a former leader of the ruling People Power Party (PPP), was set Wednesday to announce his departure from the PPP and a plan to launch a new political party of his own.
Lee will hold a press conference and introduce his new party and future plans at a restaurant in Seoul's northern district of Nowon, his political hometown where he ran unsuccessfully for the National Assembly three times.
Lee has long been at odds with the PPP's mainstream faction of loyalists to President Yoon Suk Yeol.
His new party is set to materialize sometime in the early half of January, officials said. (Yonhap)
