Kim Rahn is the managing editor of The Korea Times. Since joining the company in 2003, she has covered various beats including the presidential office, Seoul city government, the Bank of Korea and the tourism industry. In 2014, she won the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) award for her coverage of the ordeals of migrant women in Korea.
Winners of Korea Times-APLN Essay Contest

The Korea Times and the Asia-Pacific Leadership Network for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (APLN) announced the winners of the first Korea Times―APLN Essay Contest, Tuesday. The Korea Times is pleased to announce the winners of the first Korea Times-Asia-Pacific Leadership Network for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (APLN) Essay Contest for graduate and undergraduate students writing on the theme of “Youth, Disarmament and Peace in the Asia-Pacific Region.”
Yoo Dong-suk, a student at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, the U.S., won the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Award. Alexander M. Hynd at University of New South Wales Sydney won The Korea Times Award, while Cho Fiona Hye-min at Ewha Womans University won The Asia-Pacific Leadership Network Award. Yoo will receive 2 million won and an award plaque, and Hynd and Cho will each receive 1 million won and a plaque.
Five others received honorable mentions: Kim Sang-hoon from Korea University, Kim Chul-min from KAIST, Park Ji-hun from Yonsei University, Jang In-tae from Kyung Hee University and Cho Yong-su from Hanyang University. They will each receive 500,000 won and a plaque.
The winners will receive their awards in a ceremony at The Korea Times office in Seoul, Nov. 27. Their essays will be published in that day's edition of The Korea Times.
