President Moon Jae-in's job approval rating rose to 50 percent this week, a poll showed Monday, the first time it has reached 50 percent since the third week of February when it recorded 51 percent.

In the poll of 2,520 adults over 19 conducted by Realmeter from May 20 to 24, Moon's job approval rating came to 50 percent, up 0.6 percentage points from another Realmeter poll the week before.

Some 45.6 percent disapproved of Moon's job performance in the latest poll, which has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points with a 95 percent confidence level, down 0.4 percentage points from the week before.

Another monthly survey on Moon's job performance, conducted by Korea Society Opinion Institute (KSOI) of 1,021 adults over 19 on May 24 and 25, also showed Moon's approval rating surpassed 50 percent recording 51.8 percent, up 2.2 percentage points from its earlier poll conducted a month before.

According to the latest KSOI survey, which has a margin of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points with a 95 percent confidence level, more than half, or 51.6 percent of the respondents said they blame the main opposition Liberty Korea Party (LKP) for the crippled operation of the National Assembly because of conflicts over fast-tracking bills regarding electoral reform and establishing a new investigative body.

Some 27.1 percent said they blame the ruling Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) for the recent conflicts over fast-tracking bills, which led the National Assembly to be out of action for weeks, while the two parties are still in conflict over preconditions to normalize National Assembly sessions.

The LKP refuses to join the normalization of the National Assembly unless the DPK and three other parties ― the Bareunmirae Party (BMP), the Party for Democracy and Peace (PDP) and the Justice Party ― which backed the fast-tracking withdraw their support and apologize for pushing forward with it without the LKP's consent.
