Dispute remains despite governor's 'medical' check
By Kim Jae-heun
The controversy over Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung's alleged affair with actress Kim Boo-sun is unlikely to fade despite him having his skin checked by a doctor to refute her claim that he had a “big mole” on his body.
Kim's supporters claim there is more evidence against the governor, and they will disclose this piece by piece.
Lee visited Ajou University Hospital in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, Tuesday, and had his skin examined. Doctors determined, “there was neither a mole nor any signs of laser or surgical treatment that could have removed it.”
The examination came after the actress claimed he had a big, round mole on a specific area of his body to prove that she had a 15-month affair with him starting in December 2007.
Lee expected the dispute to die down following the medical check.
However, the actress said she has more evidence to prove they had a relationship.
Kim's lawyer Kang Yong-seok said the mole the actress told him about was not “big, round and black,” adding Lee was trying to get away from the trouble in an “unconvincing way.”
“The mole is only the tip of the iceberg,” Kang said on his YouTube channel. “We have more evidence, like text messages.”
The police also said the medical examination would not be crucial in finding the truth about the allegation and would not be reflected in their investigation report.
“Whether the governor has a mole on his body or not, is not important in this investigation. We will refer to it if we need to in the future,” an officer from Bundang Police Station said Wednesday.
Alongside the purported affair, several other allegations have been made against the governor.
Lee is accused of abusing his power to forcibly commit his estranged brother to a mental hospital and lying about it on a television debate show.
Forty investigators searched Lee's house Friday and confiscated two mobile phones, after searching his former offices in Seongnam City Hall where previously served a term as mayor.
The minor Bareunmirae Party also accused Lee of forcing local companies to “sponsor” the city-affiliated professional football team by paying 16 billion won in advertising.
In addition, Lee allegedly has ties to an international criminal gang that had a chapter active in Seongnam. He is said to have defended its members in an assault case in 2007 when he was lawyer.
Lee is denying all the allegations.
