Woongjin to expand musical exchanges with Southeast Asia

Woongjin Foundation Chairman Shin Hyun-woong met with Philippine Ambassador to Korea Raul Hernandez, Monday, to discuss measures to foster bilateral cooperation in cultural exchanges, the foundation said Wednesday.
The Philippine ambassador came to the foundation at the invitation of Shin, who wished to express gratitude to the representative of the Southeast Asian country amid growing popularity of the Woongjin Multicultural Family Music Broadcast.
The occasion came shortly before the 10th anniversary of the multilingual music program, which was launched in 2008 to help foreign residents adapt to Korea. It runs many programs throughout the year.
The programs, popular among the foreign community, cover not only news and current issues but also provide information on cultural events and Korean language classes. Languages in service include Tagalog, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, Mongolian and Arabic.
“I personally wished to express gratitude to Shin for continuing the broadcast program, a much-needed comfort to about 70,000 people that came from my country,” Hernandez said.
“I also want to congratulate the foundation for winning the 2017 Migration on Advocacy and Media Award, which attests to the increased recognition of the program.”
He also expressed his appreciation for the foundation-organized scholarship program, through which 79 students attended Seoul National University between 2010 and 2014.
Shin met with Thai Ambassador to Korea Sarun Charoensuwan on Dec. 14 and with Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines Nguyen Vu Tu on Nov. 28, to discuss ways to boost mutual cooperation on sharing cultural content.
