'Okja' makes list of 10 for Academy Award

Action-fantasy film “Okja,” directed by Bong Joon-ho, has made the shortlist of 10 movies in the Academy Awards’ visual effects category, the American entertainment magazine Variety reported Tuesday.
It quoted the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as saying it has selected 10 films to move forward in the category -- “Alien: Covenant,” “Blade Runner 2049,” “Dunkirk,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2,” “Kong: Skull Island,” “The Shape of Water,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets,” “War for the Planet of the Apes” and “Okja.”
The executive committee of the academy’s visual effects branch will determine five films for final Oscar consideration and announce the list on Jan.23.
The 90th Oscars will be at the Hollywood and Highland Center on March 4.
“Okja,” released by the American streaming service Netflix in June, triggered three local major theater chains to boycott screening the film.
