A suspect in a bank robbery in the central city of Asan was arrested Friday, about five hours after fleeing with 100 million won ($75,901) in cash, officials said.

The suspect in his 50s allegedly stole the money from a branch of the Korea Federation of Community Credit Cooperatives in Asan, 83 kilometers south of Seoul, at around 4:20 p.m.

The man, wearing a mask, threatened three workers there with a deadly weapon, took the money and fled the site by stealing a car owned by one of the employees, though nobody was injured.

After an hourslong search, police caught the man at a shopping mall in Anseong, located 64 kilometers southeast of Seoul, at 9:05 p.m., and are conducting an investigation, the officials added. (Yonhap)
