Police have referred a lawyer to the prosecution Tuesday for investigation and potential indictment on charges of allegedly beating his wife to death during a quarrel at their residence in Seoul.

The 50-year-old, who holds a U.S. attorney license and worked at a major law firm in Seoul, is accused of assaulting his wife in her 40s with an unspecified blunt instrument to her death on Dec. 3.

The suspect declined to comment on reporters' questions as he was escorted out of the Seongbuk Police Station in Seoul at 8:15 a.m. on the way to the prosecutors' office.

The autopsy results by the National Forensic Service (NFS) suggested the victim died from asphyxia by neck compression and hypovolemic shock, according to the police.

On Wednesday, the Seoul Central District Court granted an arrest warrant for him, citing his flight risk.

The man, who is reportedly a son of a former multi-term lawmaker, is known to have quit his job at the law firm after the incident. (Yonhap)
