In Anjeong-ri, a short jaunt from the Walk-In Gate at U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, Sam’s Sushi is serving a mouthwatering odyssey across landscapes of seafood, rice and spice. Sam’s Sushi is one of the most popular restaurants in the neighborhood and the hands-down favorite for Japanese food including fresh sushi, sashimi, maki, teriyaki and specialty rolls.

For those in search of sashimi, the quintessential Japanese delicacy, Sam’s serves an extensive selection of thinly sliced cuts of fresh raw seafood. They offer classics like tuna, octopus, crab and yellowtail, along with house favorites like crab, swordfish and red snapper. The chef’s selection of assorted sashimi, a treasure trove of oceanic gems more dazzling than pirate loot, comes in nine-piece or 25-piece sets. Their cuts are esteemed for their natural flavors and delicate textures.

For maki aficionados, Sam’s serves large eight-piece sushi rolls wrapped in seaweed and sweet vinegar rice. Their lineup of house specialties includes the California Roll with crab, avocado and cucumber, offering a creamy and crunchy contrast; the spicy Tuna Roll, a mix of tuna and spicy mayo, providing a savory kick; and the Philadelphia Roll, where the richness of salmon meets soft cream cheese. The harmony of ingredients, the subtle tang of vinegared rice and the umami of seaweed come together in each perfect bite-sized piece.

They don’t call it The Special because it's trying to stay humble on a menu full of show-offs. Loosen your belt buckle, The Special is a proper meal, hands down the most popular item on the menu. Customers are served rice and their choice of chicken, beef or salmon teriyaki, along with mixed tempura (including two pieces of golden-fried jumbo shrimp and four pieces of fried-vegetables), and choice of eight California Rolls, eight Spicy Tuna Rolls or four pieces of sushi, as well as miso soup and a side salad.

Their inventive lineup of special sushi rolls puts Sam’s creativity on full display. Each roll contains a unique fusion of flavors and textures designed to tantalize your taste buds and elevate your dining experience. Among the most popular is the aptly named Philadelphia Experiment, an inside-out roll with salmon, cream cheese and deep-fried avocado topped with spicy tuna. This and other daring combinations deliver modern twists on classic favorites, and are a testament to the artistry and innovation at Sam’s Sushi.

Sam’s Sushi opens daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with extended hours until 10:30 p.m. every Friday and Saturday. If you're in the area, you can skip the queue, pay online, and place pickup or delivery orders using the Shuttle app or shuttledelivery.co.kr.
