Heritage of Korea
The Umyeondang National Gugak Center offers a special "Heritage of Korea" performance tonight and tomorrow night, in honor of PyeongChang 2018. The performances include pansori, cheoyongmu, ganggangsullae, gagok and pangut, plus the folk song “Arirang,” all listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Korea. Tickets cost 10,000 won. Olympics Noble Red: Pinot Noir
Vineworks Korea in western Seoul hosts the first of its “Wine Olympics” events, pitting pinot noirs from France, Chile, the U.S., Germany and New Zealand in a competition. Cube of Truth
Global animal rights activist collective Anonymous for the Voiceless is staging a direct action outreach in cities around the world, to encourage people to switch to vegan lifestyles. Participants share information with members of the public on the cruelty in meat, dairy and egg production. They also use virtual reality to let people experience life as a livestock animal. PyeongChang Core
Korea’s hardcore punk scene celebrates the opening of the Winter Olympics with “PyeongChang Core,” a show at Club Dip this Saturday. The organizers admit there’s no real concept to the show. Bands include the Geeks, 1Ton, Turn for Our, Flush!! and Lesson. Show starts at 7 p.m. and costs 15,000 won.
