The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) held The 11th AMCHAM Innovation Camp in partnership with eBay Korea at Ajou University, Sept. 20.
Eight AMCHAM delegates from leading American and Korean companies, met with around 100 Ajou University students to share insights into how to improve their prospects in the global job market.
Prior to the event, Lee Joong-bok, eBay Korea’s Team Leader of Cross-Border Trade (CBT) made a presentation on the topic of “Access to the Global Marketplace with eBay.” The presentation covered global and crossborder e-commerce as well as opportunities for businesses to expand exports using online channels, such as eBay.
The main event began with opening remarks by acting President Ryu Hee-sug of Ajou University, as well as congratulatory remarks by James Kim, chairman and CEO of AMCHAM, and Lee O-eun, head of government relations at eBay Korea.
“I hope today’s lecture on online commerce will help nurture the young entrepreneurs towards the global market,” Lee stated.
Jeffrey Jones, chairman of AMCHAM Board of Governors and foundation chairman of Partners for the Future Foundation, expressed his gratitude for the participating mentors and students and the success of another Innovation Camp.
“This is a great opportunity for not only students but also mentors to learn and share valuable experiences,” Jones stated. “I am confident today will be a great experience for all of us.”
The AMCHAM Council on Innovation for the Future was launched in October 2012 to promote innovation in Korea, encouraging closer partnerships between Korean and U.S. companies and supporting Korea’s young workers and SMEs.
To date, the council has organized 10 innovation camps at universities outside of Seoul, including in Busan, Daegu, Ulsan, Changwon and Gangwon, North and South Chungcheong and North Jeolla provinces. At these events, AMCHAM member CEOs mentor Korean students to become global leaders.
Founded in 1953 AMCHAM Korea aims to encourage the development of investment and trade between Korea and the United States. AMCHAM is the largest foreign chamber in Korea with around 700 member companies with diverse interests and substantial participation in the Korean economy.
