The Australia Korea Foundation, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Australian government kicked off the “Cultural Conversations” art exhibition at LVS Gallery in Seoul on Tuesday.

The 19-day exhibition will feature the works of eight eminent Australian artists comprising Andrew Christofides, Elisabeth Cummings, Col Jordan, Alun Leach-Jones, Ken Reinhard, Ann Thomson, Yvonne Boag and Guy Warren together with six Korean artists Kim Ku-lim, Lee Kun-yong, Lee Seung-taek, Suh Yong-sun, Yoon Jin-sup and Yun Suk-nam.

The exhibition explores the passing of knowledge through art and conversation through a series of images and prerecorded interviews with the featured artists. Visitors will have a unique opportunity to learn about the lives and works of Australian and Korean artists.

The original concept began in Sydney, Australia, last year. For this event, two works from each exhibitor are presented with a recording of the artist explaining the pieces.

“What we noticed was there were a lot of common themes on the periphery of these works,” said organizer Bob Jansen. “Artists from both countries expressed themes such as colonization.”

All interviews contain English and Korean subtitles.

The exhibition will move on to Sydney on March 16 and then Melbourne in September.
