US author to give book reading of fantasy series

By John Redmond

Christina Farley, author of the “Gilded’ young-adult fantasy book series, will give a reading and sign copies of her books at What the Book in Itaewon, Seoul on Saturday.

The series focuses on the adventures of 16-year-old Lee Jae-hwa, a Korean-American girl with martial arts and archery skills who has been uprooted from Los Angeles to Seoul with her widowed father.

Thinking her biggest challenges will be fitting into a new school and dealing with her Korean grandfather, Lee discovers that a Korean demi-god, Haemosu, has been stealing the soul of the oldest daughter of each generation in her family for centuries.

Farley, from upstate New York, who spent eight years as a teacher in Seoul, will read from “Gilded” and “Silvern” and sign copies of her books from 3 p.m.

Admission is free. Attendees must buy a book to be entered in a scheduled giveaway.

What the Book is on the second floor of Yeonghwa Building, 176-2, Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
