A group of foreigners dedicated to sharing vegan food recipes held a food tasting event at Bonny’s Pizza & Pub in Haebangcheon, Seoul, on Saturday.

Going by their Facebook name, “Seoul Vegan Pot Luck,” the group holds monthly gatherings in order to share food and recipes with others who have the same diet.

The theme for this month’s event was “Around the World One Dish at a Time,” and featured a wide selection of food from Europe and Asia.

Veganism, the practice of maintaining a non-dairy vegetarian diet, is fairly widespread in Western countries, especially the U.S., but is a relatively new concept in Korea.

Participants were asked to label the dishes with information on ingredients and preparation along with their name.

A surprise hit of the day were “

Crunchy Spicy Tofu Bites

” prepared by

Gemma Wardle

, writer of the blog “A Fat Girl’s Guide to Eating in Korea.”

Of the food, the U.K. native shared the recipe and wrote a short piece on the event.

“Although I am not a vegan or even a veggie, I still love to go. Mainly because there is always a large table filled with free food for all to enjoy. I also enjoy making lots of delicious delights and being told how wonderful they are. This time I decided to take these crunchy spicy tofu bites,” wrote Wardle.

Participants were requested to arrive early, and for those who were unable to cook or transport food, vegan pizza was available along with the choices from other guests.
