Auditions for 'Betrayal' due on Jan. 5

In preparation for this seasons upcoming theater calendar, Whitebox Theatre Company will hold auditions for “Betrayal” at Whitebox Theatre in Yongsan, Seoul, on Jan. 5.

Beginning at 1 p.m., auditions for the Harold Pinter play will be split into four hourly sessions finishing at 5 p.m.

The play, set in Britain between 1968 and 1977, focuses on Emma and Jerry who engage in a destructively passionate love affair, deceiving their spouses, each other and at times, themselves.

“Layers of self deceit and lies unravel coolly in Harold Pinter's noble prize winning bleak and brilliant portrayal of an unwinding love triangle. Betrayal moves backward in time, flawlessly stripping years of guilt and destruction with the simple use of Pinter's periods, pauses, and devastating silences. The difference between one dot, and three, can mean life and death in Pinter's world,” states a press release.

The characters are, Emma, Jerry, Robert, the husband and best friend, and a waiter.

For those unable to audition Saturday, director Lindsey Higgins can schedule an alternative audition time to best suit your schedule.

At the audition, sides for cold reads will be provided. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your audition time.

To prepare, organizers have PDF files of the script available for those wanting a copy before the audition. It can also be purchased at What the Book in Itaewon.

The show dates are March 15 – 24.

To get to Whitebox Theatre leave exit 2 of Hyochang Park Station (line 6), make a U-turn and walk around the corner towards Hyochang Park Stadium. Do not walk straight from the exit. There are big green street signs in English showing the way to Hyochang Stadium. Walk past a tire store and take a right when you see the Eco & Deco Flower Shop on your right. Head up a slight hill. You should see Cosmai Cafe on your right. Whitebox Theatre is in the basement of the building next to Cosmai Cafe.

Total walking time should not exceed five minutes.
