Toast to make a new world record

By Agnes Yu

Raise your glass to go down in history with Pieroth Wines on Nov. 20 at exactly 8 p.m. sharp in the largest, synchronized wine tasting ever. Held simultaneously in 25 countries with a target of 25,000 people the attempt to break the Guinness world record in Seoul will take place at High Street Market in Itaewon.

Previously, on May 21, 2008, the managed pub chain JD Wetherspoon broke the record with precisely 17,540 enjoying a complimentary glass of chardonnay for participating.

Combining some fun to go along with the toast the evening kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and includes a silent auction with a variety of coveted items donated by sponsors _ the American Women’s Club Korea and SantaFe Relocation Services. Participants will submit bids in writing throughout the evening and the highest bidder can gloat in victory. There will also be a lottery with the chance to take home vouchers for hotel stays, bottles of wine, and gift certificates for High Street Market, etc.

All proceeds from the evening will go to Another Home, a safe house for abused underage girls.

After the world record toast, special discounts to mark the event will be offered at that time only.

High Street Market was born when four men with individual specialties in wine, deli meat, fresh baked goods and cheese, collaborated to create a unique grocery shopping experience especially for items difficult to come across in Korea. It is located across from the Cheil Communications building at the eastern end of Itaewon on the second floor.

Entry is 15,000 won in advance and 20,000 on the day of the event, inclusive of one complimentary glass of wine and a selection of appetizers.

Reservations are required even if you don’t prepay and can be made by emailing service@pierothwines.co.kr or for more information call 02-711-9171.
