Music Festival in Haebangchon
The 4th Haebangchon Music Festival will kick off at 2 p.m., Saturday, in Phillies in Haebangchon, close to Itaewon and Namsan tunnel 3.
The festival, which began last year, brings together the cream of talent in Seoul as a way of thanking the foreign residents that have flocked to the area.
Four familiar local bars, Orange Tree, VFW, Ssen Bar and Phillies, will put on almost 30 live acts and over 25 hours of music for your listening pleasure.
From 2 p.m. until midnight the four venues will play the widest and most diverse selection of music you are likely to hear this summer, blending together poetry, folk, jazz, blues, rock and hip-hop.
The festival originated this time last year as a tribute to the amazing musical talent that seems to flourish in Haebangchon.
Over the past few years more and more quality musicians have emerged from the area and formed very successful live acts. The resulting success continues to escalate, never ceasing to entertain its growing fanbase. Jim Gaynor and Lance Regan-Diehl both co-organized the festival and have seen it rise to its current heights.
Now with the festival most of this talent has been given the opportunity to show themselves to an even wider audience than ever before.
This time around there is a wealth of returning and new acts at the festival, while some very notable solo acts and mergers. Mark Baker of St. John the Gambler shall perform with so new solo material. Nabi Band, who played at the winter festival, will return to VFW following the release of a new album. Also, a collaboration of four solo-artists from the previous spring festival brings ‘Sometime Sunday’ to Orange Tree.
While we shall also see HBC Fest regulars LRD, The Forty Days and The Kimchi Cowboys plus a wealth of other festival returnees, the Animal Dads, Rebecca Cant, Marie Conniffe, John Sagnella, The Bellows, The International Goat Breeders. Of course on top of this there are also more new acts; Seth Martin, Solar C, Trevor Clements and the Shoot First Poetry Beat, Miso Stefanac and Tabula Rasa to name but a few will all join the festival for the first time. Let’s also not forget the Poets lounge also, which will kick off from 5pm in Ssen Bar.
