Military deploys remote wireless demolition set

The state arms procurement agency said Tuesday that remote wireless demolition equipment, used to destroy command posts and key facilities deep in enemy territory, has been delivered to the military.

The deployment was completed at the end of December, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said.

Huneed Technologies, a local defense firm, led development of the equipment, which was completed in 2014. Mass production began after DAPA conducted tests and evaluations.

The equipment has been delivered to the Army Special Forces and engineers, as well as special warfare units of the Navy and the Marine Corps, the agency said.

“The method of communication for the new equipment has been improved compared to the existing one,” DAPA said.

“Military units will be able to effectively use the equipment as its size and weight have been reduced considerably.”

Huneed CEO Shin Jong-seok said: “We are honored to be able to contribute to the enhancement of our military special operations capability with this remote wireless demolition set developed and delivered by Huneed.”

Shin said the company successfully carried out operational and field tests, and completed the project without any delivery delay.
