S. Korea beefs up anti-terror vigilance

The South Korean government on Thursday decided to beef up its readiness posture against possible acts of terrorism in the wake of a recent attack in Berlin and a shooting death in Ankara.

During a working-level meeting, the government decided to devise stronger anti-terrorism measures and step up vigilance around popular public places, particularly towards the end of the year.

It will also intensify efforts to inform overseas South Koreans of the need to better protect themselves, and hold regional consultative meetings on the fight against terrorism in Seoul, Busan and other major cities, officials said.

Seoul officials also expressed concerns over the continuing propaganda activities that the Islamic State militant group has carried out through social media. (Yonhap)
