Army Chief of Staff Gen. Park Heung-ryul Wednesday began a 10-day trip to Japan, China and the United States to meet with military chiefs of the countries on bilateral ties and global security issues, the Army said.
In Japan, Park will meet with Takashi Saito, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to discuss ways of upgrading relations between the two militaries, it said in a news release.
He will visit Beijing from Friday to Sunday, followed by a three-day trip to the United States, it said.
During his stay in the United States, Park will meet with U.S. Army Chief of Staff Gen. George W. Casey, Jr. for talks on issues of mutual concern including global peacekeeping operations, it said. He is scheduled to visit the National Training Center (NTC) at Fort Irwin to review the U.S. military scientific combat training systems.
The NTC is an advanced instrumented training facility in the world that is suitable for force-on-force and live fire training of heavy brigade-sized military forces.
