Navy Chiefs of Staff from South Korea and Thailand met Monday to discuss bilateral ties, South Korea’s Navy said.

Admiral Satirapan Keyanon, commander in chief of the Thai Navy, arrived in South Korea at the invitation of Admiral Song Young-moo, chief of Naval Operations, for a five-day stay, it said in a press release.

During the meeting in the Gyeryongdae military headquarters in South Chungcheong Province, the two commanders exchanged views on ways to cooperate on the defense industry and modernization of their naval forces, it said.

Thailand, which now has more than 70,000 naval troops, dispatched a combined 12,000 seamen to help South Korea defend itself against communist North Korea backed by China during the 1950-53 Korean War.
