A K-pop girl band member had her sentence increased to six months in prison, suspended for a year, in an appeal court on Saturday for growing and smoking marijuana.
The musician, in her 20s, whose identity has not been revealed, had appealed after being fined 3 million won ($2,627) at her first hearing.
The appeal court overruled the first verdict and added 80 hours of community service and a 60 million won fine.
The musician allegedly grew the marijuana in her apartment until April.
“Drug-related crimes are hard to uncover and have a negative impact on society,” said the court in explaining why it overturned the first verdict. “Three million won is too light for the crime.”
Although the member’s name was not released, she reportedly debuted with six-member band five years ago.
