Booklet to help immigrants learn about Korea before marriage
By Choi Ha-young
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family said Friday that marriage immigrants coming to Korea can prepare for their upcoming life before departing their homeland using a booklet it has published.
The ministry will publish the handy guidebook in eight languages in 13 countries: China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Mongolia, Nepal, Laos, Myanmar, Russia, Kirgizstan, and Ukraine.
Immigrants can get the booklet at Korean embassies in their home countries when they receive their F-6 visa, which is issued for marriage immigrants.
The guidebook includes an introduction to Korea, contact information for emergencies and counseling, as well as language and cultural tips for living here. The ministry also provides a T-money card for public transportation.
“I hope marriage immigrants will feel less pressured on leaving their home countries by reading this guidebook,” said Yoon Hyo-sik, family policy head at the ministry.
