Ex-Air Force chief to head university in Daejeon

Kim Eun-gi, a former Air Force chief of staff, will become the 10th president of Daejeon Institute of Science and Technology (DST) Monday, the Air Force said Sunday.

The inaugural ceremony is scheduled to take place at 9 a.m. in an auditorium on campus, it added.

Born in Seocheon, South Chungcheong Province, Kim was commissioned in 1974 and assumed major positions such as commander of the 1st Fighter Wing and Air Force vice chief of staff.

In April 2007, Kim took command of the Air Force as chief of staff and retired from the service in October 2008.

During his service, Kim received a presidential citation in 1996, the Order of National Security Merit, Cheonsu Medal, in 2001 and the Order of National Security Merit, Gukseon Medal, in 2006.

After he retired from the Air Force, he became the president of the Far East Broadcasting Company from January 2009 to July 2011.

Founded in 1940, the DST is a specialized vocational university that offers practice courses for students to improve occupational ability and quickly adapt to work environments, according to the institute.
