Seven schoolteachers won a best teacher award from the Shinil Educational Foundation for their contribution to education and national development.

The Shinil Teacher Award Committee held an award ceremony at the Shinil campus in Gangbuk-gu, northeastern Seoul, on Saturday.

“While reviewing their achievements, I realized so many teachers are putting life into their students, which I believe contributed to the development of the county,” said Chung Won-sik, president of the award committee and former prime minister.

The winners include Kim Dong-joong from Seoul Eunjin Elementary School in Eunpyeong-gu, northern Seoul; Park Moon-soon from Songsan Elementary School in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province; Son Ha-dam from Osan Middle School in Yongsan-gu, central Seoul; and Lee Kyung-ran from Incheon Dongyang Middle School in Incheon.

Other winners are Kim Jong-nam from Wonmook High School in Jungnang-gu, eastern Seoul; Kim Eok-kyeong from Seoul Technical High School in Dongjak-gu, southern Seoul; and Jang Yoo-jin from Seoul National School for the Blind in Jongno-gu, central Seoul.

Marking the 13th year, the award committee selected the winners based on recommendations from the principals of the recipients’ schools. The candidates should have more than 10 years of experience in teaching. The committee also evaluated teachers’ contribution to education, influence on students and their research capabilities.

Each winner received 10 million won in prize money, as well as a prize certificate and a plaque.

The foundation created the award in 2002 to revive the spirit of Lee Bong-soo, founder of Shinil Middle and High School.
