A former cafe employee and the owner are in a legal dispute after the owner paid the worker’s 150,000 won ($131) salary in coins.
The owner is believed to have given the former employee 5,000 coins.
The worker posted a picture of the bag of coins on a social networking site.
“When I resigned for medical reasons, he gave me only half of my salary,” the former employee said. “When I put in a petition to the Ministry of Employment and Labor for the rest, the owner gave me coins.”
When the post went viral, the owner sued the employee for defaming the cafe with false information.
“He only worked for 13 days,” the owner said. “His attitude was also very poor. On his last day he took another absence without leave.”
But the employee countercharged the owner with defamation for calling him incompetent online.
Police said they have called in both to investigate the case.
