Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) was the hottest social issue among domestic Twitter users this year.

Twitter Korea released the list of top keywords for various categories Tuesday.

In the social issue category, there were 3.92 million MERS-related tweets, making it the top keyword.

The downtown office district of "Gwanghwamun," where various rallies and events are held, followed. Next was the "Sewol Ferry," which sank and killed more than 300 in April last year.

In the music category, boy band "Got7," which communicates with fans through Twitter, topped the list, followed by other idol groups "BTS" and "EXO."

As for TV programs, the MBC entertainment show "Infinite Challenge" was No. 1 in tweets, as the show marks its 10th anniversary this year.

Among movies, the three domestic films that surpassed 10 million in ticket sales this year, "Assassination," "Ode to my Father" and "Veteran," took first to third places in tweet numbers.
