Former Navy chief cleared of influence-peddling

Seoul Central District Court on Monday acquitted former Navy chief Hwang Ki-chul of influence-peddling.

The court found him not guilty of helping a supplier win a contract in 2009 to provide parts for building of the 3,500-ton Tongyeong, despite being aware of irregularities in evaluation and selection.

Hwang was indicted with detention in April.
