Amid an early surge in online swimsuit sales, rash guards are making a splash.

According to online retailer Lotte.com, Wednesday, sales of swimsuits and swimming equipment in the past two weeks have jumped more than fourfold on the same period last year.

Sales of rash guards, in particular, spiked more than sixfold, while sales of bikinis grew a mere 12 percent.

“For rash guards, 43 percent of purchases were made by women aged 25 to 29,” a Lotte.com merchandiser said. “Sales are going up as more women seek practicality and comfort.”

The growth is also attributed to an increasing number of people enjoying water sports such as waterskiing and surfing.
