Korean office workers spend an average 917,400 won a month, a survey shows.

Married workers spend an average 1.58 million won, 2.4 times the amount singles spend ― 670,000 won.

Recruitment portal Job Korea surveyed 848 office workers.

In the survey, which allowed more than one box to be checked, most respondents (72.2 percent) cited food as taking the largest portion of their spending, followed by 46.7 percent who cited transport costs and car maintenance.

Then followed phone bills (32 percent), rent (28.8 percent), shopping (17.1 percent), loans (14.4 percent), insurance (12.5 percent), savings (12.5 percent) and child-rearing (9.4 percent).

When it came to spending that they regretted, the largest percentage (35.4 percent) of respondents named alcohol.

Most ― 80.4 percent ― were unhappy with their consumption patterns while 19.5 percent were happy.
