Illegal numbing creams sold to motels

Police have detained four people for allegedly making illegal “sexual aid” numbing creams and selling them to motels nationwide.
Another 20 people were booked for selling the products online.
According to police on Friday, the four men have produced compounds of chemicals and topical anesthetics in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, since 2011. The creams and gels are sold for the purpose of prolonging erections.
Up to 10 million of the products, worth 700 million won ($637,000), have been sold to motels and individuals, police said.
The products were promoted as “Magic Cream” in online markets.
Police raided a factory in Nonsan and seized some 60,000 packs and 24 liters of ingredients.
If found guilty, the four men, whose identities were withheld, face up to five years in prison or fines up to 50 million won for violating the Pharmaceutical Law, police said.
They allegedly mixed alcohol, glycerin and lidocaine, a topical anesthetic, with water to produce the numbing cream. Excessive use of lidocaine can result in skin lesions, hives, dermatitis, abrasions and asthma.
To evade police, the distributers allegedly did not put any labels showing the company’s name or ingredients on the packs. Instead, they used the brand names “G” and “Ring-so”.
Motels were able to buy the products at much cheaper prices than approved enhancing creams. They then sold them to couples at a high mark up.
Police also suspect some 30 million won ($27,300) of the products have been sold online to individuals.
“We recommend that customers check the company and product’s information before using these products on the body,” a police officer said.
