The members of five middle power countries, dubbed MIKTA, will hold a working group meeting and their fifth foreign ministers’ talks next February and May, respectively, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sunday.
MIKTA is the acronym for Mexico, Indonesia, (South) Korea, Turkey and Australia.
On Saturday, the foreign ministers of the five countries met to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation among members on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brisbane, Australia. They agreed to gather next year for the meetings, the ministry said.
During the talks, the MIKTA foreign ministers agreed to launch an exchange program among junior diplomats and build a network among think tanks of member countries to explore further cooperation.
The foreign ministry said the ministers also agreed to set up a parliamentary exchange program, and build a network for trade and private sector cooperation.
Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se vowed to unveil an official website (www.mikta.org) to provide necessary information on the group.
The group was launched in September of last year to achieve mutual gains and come up with joint action for the countries.
