Lee's statements at donation ceremony for IACA

I am Lee Sung-bo, chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) of Korea.

First, I would like to congratulate you on the successful hosting of the first assembly of parties and the official launch of the master in anti-corruption studies (MACS). Also, I express my sincere gratitude to Dean Kreutner for your commitment to the establishment and development of the academy.

As corruption is getting more and more secretive, it is also getting more and more difficult to detect and punish corrupt acts. The ACRC is Korea's national anti-corruption body, which is in charge of preventing and controlling corruption in an active and systematic manner. In this regard, the commission has been accumulating abundant experience and forging policies regarding corruption crimes, and we are fully ready to share our experience with the international community through the academy.

The International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) is the first international organization specialized in anti-corruption training, and the ACRC fully supports the academy's core visions including an “interdisciplinary approach to corruption” and “bridging the gap between theory and practice.” For a more active partnership, the ACRC signed a memorandum of understanding with the Academy in 2012, and offered financial contributions this April. We are also considering providing human resources through secondments.

Let me conclude my remarks by thanking you for the warmest hospitality you have shown us, and I hope the ACRC and IACA can build a more vibrant partnership in the future.
