Seoul City to unveil habitual tax dodgers

Seoul Metropolitan Government said Friday that it will publish a list of 942 people who owe overdue taxes of more than 30 million won ($28,000) on its website.
The list includes former President Chun Doo-hwan who owes 30 million won from the sale of a house in January 2010.
The city government said it notified the tax dodgers earlier this month to warn them of the possible consequences of evading tax payments.
It plans to post the list on its website along with its newsletter after giving them a six-month grace period to make payments. Each of the individuals on the list owes an average of 150 million won in overdue taxes.
Last year, 58 tax dodgers paid 4.9 billion in delinquent taxes after receiving soliciting mail warning them of plans to publish their names on the city government’s website.
It said it will continue to post the list of other tax dodgers. Since 2006, the city has published a list of regular tax dodgers who have overdue taxes worth over 30 million won for more than three years.
