Prominent politician’s daughter forced to quit as head of students’ council

The daughter of Ryu Si-min, former chairman of the United Progressive Party, has sent a message as she was resigning as head of the student council of the social sciences school at Seoul National University.

The 22-year-old Ryu Su-jin posted on the student body’s homepage said she was secondary party to a sexual assault and tried to explain the background to the incident.

According to the junior Ryu, she reported a case in which she accused a male student of abusing a woman student while smoking and putting her down.

Ryu did not see the event as a gender assault and refuted calls for the case to be reported and this was interpreted as “secondary” assault by the student council.

Ryu said, “While I regret that I was not able to say compensating words to those involved, there is no reason to charge me with anything that is relted to sexual assault,” she posted.
