Beautiful Community helps underprivileged

By Kim Bo-eun

Thanksgiving is all about showing gratitude for the bounties of the season. If you go a step further, it is also about sharing those blessings and joys with others.

The Beautiful Community, a charity organization, took that extra step when it hosted a charity event Tuesday, ahead of Chuseok, the Korean equivalent of Thanksgiving Day.

At the event held at its office in northwestern Seoul, it provided essential supplies for several social welfare facilities, including at one for the visually impaired and another for elderly people who are without family support.

The institutions were given 130 boxes of ramen (instant noodles), 60 kilograms of frozen pork and 20 sacks of rice, all of which came from funds raised by members of the community.

The organization has been providing support to the poor and underprivileged, while making international relief efforts.

Its domestic activities include the provision of support for children and teenagers, the elderly, North Korean defectors and welfare facilities. International relief efforts include providing medical services and education as well as building facilities in third world countries.

Members of the community are currently doing various forms of volunteer work, hosting cultural arts performances and bazaars, studying methods of making donations and publishing newsletters.
