38.5% of murders committed by men during quarrels: study
About 38.5 percent of murders are committed by men during quarrels, a study said Sunday.
Park Hyung-min, a researcher at the Korean Institute of Criminology, analyzed a total of 389 murders last year, and of them, 322 were committed by men. The remaining 67 were by women.
The finding indicates that many men resorted to violence to accomplish their intentions, the study said.
On the other hand, 22.4 percent of women murdered people who were asleep, it said.
The study said about 18.5 percent of male murderers killed strangers, while 13.8 percent murdered their lovers.
Some 55.6 percent killed family members living with them; and 14.8 percent, other relatives.
The study said 38 percent of men committed murders, while they were intoxicated. The comparable figure stood at 16.7 percent for women.
