Tiny ‘paradise’ of child porn checked in central Seoul

In broad daylight, there is a place in Namdaemun, downtown Seoul, with the sign “Adult PC Room.”

Upon entering the facility Monday afternoon, you will see nine rooms along a narrow corridor, each with a space of no more than 3.3 square meters equipped with a computer, ash tray and a roll of toilet paper.

As soon as you switch on the monitor, there are obscene pictures along with the selection of “Western,” “Korean,” “Japanese” and other menus. When selected, the monitor says there is a stock of 28,819 pornographic files. There were also 236,558 photos of everything from deviant sex behaviors to those taken with hidden cameras.

In particular, there were more than 1,000 files of child pornography which is prohibited by law even with mere possession and these are easy to find with entries like “Lorita.”

“When there is a police raid, we simply shut off the server and say that the files belong to the user,” said one employee of the PC room.

In many of the cases, the files were from portal sites which share child pornography, many of which contain materials of children younger than 10 years of age.
