Man arrested for raping teenage niece for years: police

Police said Monday that they arrested a man living in Pyeongtaek, Gyeong Province, on charges of raping his teenage niece numerous times.

The 58-year-old, the elder brother of her father, began raping the niece in 2005 when she was only 10 years old, a police spokesman said. Since then, he sexually attacked her at his home one-three times a week, the spokesman said.

Officials of a children’s care center reported the case to the police on Aug. 30, after holding consultations with the girl, he said.

According to the officials, the girl had kept the alleged rape secret because she thought that she will get a scolding from her father and it will cause to her family a lot of trouble.

The teenager has stayed at the children’s care center since giving birth to a baby in July. “When asked who is father of the baby, she did not give an answer.”

The police asked the National Forensic Service to confirm blood relationship through a test.
