KIPA to compile 'Earth in Danger' into book

The Korea Times, in collaboration with the Korea Institute of Public Administration (KIPA), has completed its 50-part series “Earth in Danger,” including contributions from President Lee Myung-bak and U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

KIPA President Park Eung-kyuk initiated the series on Feb.7 with a two-page article. The series ran twice a week every Tuesday and Friday.

Local contributors include Young soo-gil, chairman of the Presidential Committee for Green Growth; Han Seung-soo, then chairman of the Global Green Growth Institute; Environment Minister Yoo Young-sook; former Environment Minister Lee Kyu-yong; and Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs Minister Kwon Do-yeop.

Foreign contributors include Prof. Jeffrey

Sachs of the Earth Institute at Columbia University; Jeremy Rifkin, president of the Foundation on Economic Trends in the U.S.; and Randall Krantz of the World Economic Forum.

The series was designed to alert readers to the fact that our planet is suffering from environmental devastation, including climate change, pollution, ecological destruction and depletion of natural resources.

Through the project, KIPA and The Korea Times have sought to identify the problems and the solutions at local and global levels.

The series will be compiled into a book for distribution worldwide.

The Korea Times and KIPA appreciate the writers’ professional contributions and thank readers for taking the time to share the realities of the current state of the environment.
