Police arrest rapist wanted for 8 years

By Kim Bo-eun

Police said Friday that a man suspected of perpetrating multiple cases of rape, arson and theft since 2004 has been arrested.

The man, surnamed Seo, allegedly committed the crimes in Myeonmok-dong, northeastern Seoul, and mostly targeted women in their 20s who lived alone.

According to police, the 26-year-old was able to evade investigators because he knew the area well. He has lived there for 20 years.

Seo raped the women after following them into their homes. Sometimes, he broke into vacant houses and waited until they returned in order to rape them.

Police said Seo once set fire to a house after committing a crime.

Seo learned to remove window frames after graduating from high school. He wore cotton gloves so as not to leave fingerprints at the crime scene.

Police said they were able to capture Seo because of a fingerprint he left on plastic tape that he used to gag a victim in 2007.
