US court dismisses Korean school's suit against Yale

WASHINGTON (Yonhap) -- A federal judge has ruled against a Korean university in its years-long legal fight with Yale University, according to a local news report.

In 2008, Dongguk University, a Buddhist school in Seoul, filed a $50-million lawsuit against Yale, arguing it mistakenly hired an art history professor due to wrong information from Yale on her graduation.

Shin Jeong-ah was found to have faked a Yale degree to get a job at Dongguk. The revelations came amid a shocking scandal that Shin's rapid rise in the academic and social fields has been spurred by an apparent love affair with a top South Korean presidential official.

Dongguk claimed that Yale was negligent in confirming Shin's forged degree. Dongguk said its image was severely damaged and it also had huge losses in revenues.

But the judge at the Connecticut federal court dismissed the allegations Friday, the Associated Press reported.

Robert Weiner, an attorney at New York law firm McDermott Will & Emery, which is representing Dongguk, was not available for immediate comments.
