Car pile-up kills 4 in hilly road in Gangwon Province

Four people were killed and another seriously injured in a serious car pile-up involving two tour buses on a mountain road linked to Mount Seorak, west of Seoul, fire authorities said Friday.

The pileup was caused when a tour bus rammed into a sedan in the same downhill lane at 3:44 p.m. in the mountainous area in Gangwon Province, they said.

The collision left the sedan sandwiched between two tour buses, killing four of the five people in the five-seater vehicle in a pileup that involved six vehicles, according to the authorities.

The severely injured person was rushed to a nearby hospital, along with five bus passengers who were also injured, the fire authorities said.

The accident spot is classified as an alert area with a history of frequent accidents, they said, adding an investigation is underway to find the exact cause of the accident. (Yonhap)
