Drunken man breaks arm while being cuffed

By Yi Whan-woo

A drunken man broke his arm Monday while he was being handcuffed by officers inside a police station.

The 24-year-old man, surnamed Kim, fractured his left-arm after falling out of a chair while six officers were trying to restrain him, according to Heungdok Police Station in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province.

The incident began when the officers tried to restrain the man as he complained, using abusive language, about the “slow process” of the investigation.

Police had advised Kim of his rights and moved to handcuff him, at which time he fell to the floor, with surveillance camera footage showing six men approaching him. Kim was taken to hospital after the incident.

“He was agitated at that time, and that’s why six of us came altogether to force him down,” an officer said.
