NK’s military power stronger than ever before
North Korea’s military power has been stronger than ever before, according to a latest research.
In a report on North Korea’s military power and military strategy, the Korea Economic Research Institute (KERI) called on the government to seek ways of coping threat of North Korean military power after analyzing the pattern of its military expansion and its military strategies. The institute is affiliated with the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI), a lobby of family-owned business conglomerates.
“North Korea has the largest ever military power, such as 1.02 million troops, tanks, air defense artillery and warships,” the report said. “The North imported latest 29 MIG jets since 1990s although the number of fighter jets is smaller than that in 1986. In particular, South Korea has to pay attention to the build-up of submarines.”
North Korea has built up its military power than any other period in the last although its economic catastrophe has sustained for more than two decades, according to the research.
“North Korea has made all-out efforts to develop nuclear arsenals in its attempt to keep priority in the military might over the South although it has faced economic collapse since the end of Cold War,” the paper said. “It’ll be difficult for the South to counter North Korean attack if the latter gets to possess nuclear bombs.”
However, “The North will chose specific patterns of war in which it could win against the South rather than all-out one,” the paper said. “The North would attack the areas where the South arsenals can hardly work even they are superior to those of the North. The North would also avoid the level of attack in which the U.S. forces could intervene.”
The institute has also urged the government to seek ways of overwhelming the North after recognizing how much the North military is threatening.
